| Green
Door was founded in 1976 as a community program that prepares people
with severe and persistent mental illness to work and live independently.
Since that time, we have helped nearly 2,000 District of Columbia
residents move from institutions and homeless shelters, to leading
fulfilling, independent lives. Green Door is the only program of its
kind in the District of Columbia, and is recognized nationally as
one of the most successful prevocational and vocational training programs
for people with a mental illness.
Green Door's
successes are great because we see the individual, not the illness.
The people we help are members of a community-a family-and we treat
each with the dignity and respect they deserve. We work with members
to meet the goals that they set, and once met, work to exceed them.
The progress made by our members is inspiring. You can help us in
our efforts to transform and restore lives.
